Barefoot is very So-Cal, from the hip crowd and the salad, pasta and grill menu to the modern decor that you'd find elsewhere in a more expensive restaurant. Whether you park yourself on the vine encrusted, rustic patio or inside at one of the cozy tables, for ambience, alone, Barefoot is worth a visit.

This Country French venue takes a "cool crowd" on a "trip to Paris" via "an old Cal bungalow" with spacious patios in front and back. This "cozy, warm" "hideaway" in Hollywood provides a "charming" setting (the "romantic garden" area earns the most kudos) for "excellent bistro fare" like "famously good mac 'n' cheese" and "perfect steaks and fries."

The lure is the distinctive East/West cooking by Executive Chef Shigefumi Tachibe, who first introduced Los Angeles to Franco-Japonaise cooking at the legendary La Petit Chaya in the 1980s. Even the name reflects the mix of the French "Brasserie" with 'Chaya,' a Japanese teahouse steeped in the traditions of warm, personal service. Known also for its design, informal, yet elegant, as well as the gardens of giant bamboo in the center of the restaurant that reach far into the geometric skylights. There is also the popular outdoor patio, surrounded by walls of hedges and flowers, a colorful mural, and retractable ceiling awnings.

We serve uncomplicated American food in a comfortable club setting reminiscent of the great grills of San Francisco and New York. Imagine if you will, a converted firehouse with a red brick floor, an 18 foot high, pressed tin ceiling, a granite bar, mahogany booths, Ralph Lauren fabrics, Ella Fitzgerald playing in the background and you get an idea of what we are like.....

The rustic decor includes distressed tables, ceramic jugs and posters of old Italy. Just like a traditional trattoria the kitchen is exposed so you can keep an eye on what's cooking. Unlike most see-and-be-seen hot spots, there is no attitude here, and the food speaks for itself. Regular customers are known to score complimentary desserts like the tiramisu and a fruit and creme tart.
